A practical structure for turning your ideas into a focused, easy-to-follow essay.

01

Start with one precise position

Before writing your introduction, complete this sentence: “My answer is that…” If you cannot finish it clearly, your position is probably still too broad. A precise position gives every paragraph a purpose.

02

Give each paragraph one job

A strong body paragraph makes one main claim, explains why it matters, and supports it with a relevant example. Avoid collecting several unrelated ideas simply to make the paragraph longer.

Progress comes from clear practice repeated consistently—not from trying to fix everything at once.
03

Connect ideas, not just sentences

Linking words cannot repair unclear reasoning. First check that each sentence naturally follows the previous one. Then add transitions only where they make that relationship easier to understand.
